He has served as President for the American Association for Dental Research (AADR) and American Dental Education Association (ADEA).

Charles N. Bertolami, D.D.S., D. Med. Sc. is Dean at NYU College of Dentistry and the Dean Emeritus at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Dentistry. Formerly a student at Ohio State University and Harvard, Dr. Bertolami completed a residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. He has served as President of the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) and the American Association for Dental Research (AADR). Recipient of the Distinguished Service Award of the American Dental Association (ADA) and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dr. Bertolami’s research interests have included orofacial tissue repair, treatment of temporomandibular disorders and, more recently, promoting professional ethics among dental students. A provocative thinker, Dr. Bertolami has been a leader in curriculum reform in dental education.
