National Dentist’s Day – March 6
March 6, 1790, is the day that American dentist John Greenwood invented the first dental foot engine, the device that revolutionized dentistry by enabling the dental drill to be powered. Dr. Greenwood also served as George Washington’s personal dentist and created his dentures. Today, March 6 is dedicated to showing appreciation for dentists nationwide.

House Passes Action for Dental Health Act of 2023
On March 7, the US House of Representatives approved the Action for Dental Health Act of 2023, which reauthorizes the workforce grant program through 2028. The Action for Dental Health program has provided funding for the Health Resources and Services Administration oral health workforce grant program since 2018 in an effort to improve the dental workforce and access to oral health care.

University of Iowa College of Dentistry Launches App for Caregivers and Nursing Homes
Researchers at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry have developed an app that helps caregivers understand how to provide oral hygiene care for people with dementia and for older adults.
400 Kids Get Free Dental Care During “'Give Kids A Smile” Event
Across the country, Give Kids A Smile hosts events where children aged 17 years and younger from families living under the poverty line can get teeth cleanings and are screened for issues to be addressed by dentists on return visits, free of charge.
