February is … Children’s Dental Health Month
Brought to the public by the American Dental Association, National Children’s Dental Health Month is observed every February.
According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, dental caries are four times more common than childhood asthma and three times more likely to develop than childhood obesity. What’s more, children who have poor oral health often miss more school and receive lower grades than those with good oral health. National Children’s Dental Health Month is an opportunity to stress the importance of caries prevention and dental care for children.
Resources to promote National Children’s Dental Health Month, including a program planning guide, outreach materials, and publicity resources, are available from the American Dental Association. In addition, the National Maternal and Child Oral Health Resource Center (OHRC) offers materials for both patients and dental health care professionals on a wide variety of topics relevant to children’s oral health.
