Santa Fe Group Statement on Preventable Death and Accountability in Oral Health Care

The Santa Fe Group stands with the National Dental Association and the California Dental Association in calling for a complete investigation into allegations that an asylum seeker died in ICE custody due to an untreated tooth infection. 

We join them in urging a full investigation into this preventable death, a review of medical and dental protocols within ICE detention facilities, and the implementation of policies and procedures that ensure all health-related concerns, including tooth pain and infection, are assessed and addressed with the urgency and seriousness they deserve.
