Pride Month and the Importance of Inclusive Oral Health Care
June is Pride Month, an opportunity to recognize and celebrate LGBTQIA+ communities while also reflecting on the importance of ensuring that every individual has access to high-quality, respectful, and person-centered health care.
Oral health is an essential part of overall health and well-being. Access to preventive care, treatment, and ongoing oral health services contributes to better health outcomes, improved quality of life, and healthier communities. Creating environments where all individuals feel welcomed, respected, and understood can help strengthen relationships between patients and providers and support greater engagement in care.
Research has demonstrated that trust and positive patient experiences are important factors in encouraging individuals to seek preventive services and maintain regular health care visits. In oral health settings, this includes fostering respectful communication, reducing barriers to care, and recognizing the unique experiences and needs of diverse populations.
As health systems continue to evolve, there is growing recognition that improving health outcomes requires approaches that are inclusive, equitable, and responsive to the communities being served. Oral health professionals, educators, researchers, policymakers, and community leaders all play a role in advancing these efforts.

By working together to create welcoming and effective systems of care, we can help improve oral health and overall well-being across communities and throughout the lifespan.
