Integrated Diabetes & Oral Health Program
GoMo Health is bringing oral health into diabetes care through a personalized text messaging program supporting up to 10,000 Medicaid members in New York State.
Integrating Oral Health into Diabetes Care Management
A digital engagement pilot connecting oral health education and diabetes self-management for up to 10,000 Medicaid members in New York State.
About the Program
GoMo Health, in collaboration with a New York Medicaid health plan, developed an integrated oral health and diabetes engagement program. Participating members receive personalized education and support through text messages, bringing practical tips and resources directly to their phones.
The program incorporates oral health into diabetes care management and provides ongoing support to help members better understand and manage their health.
Who It Serves
The pilot serves up to 10,000 members of a New York State Medicaid health plan who have diabetes.
Organization: GoMo Health
Sector: Technology / Digital Health
Location: New York State, United States
Pilot period: June 2026 to June 2027
The Gap It Addresses
Oral health is often disconnected from care plans for chronic conditions, including diabetes. This separation leaves opportunities to integrate oral health education and support into ongoing care.
The pilot addresses this gap by delivering oral health and diabetes information together, with timely tips and resources designed to strengthen health literacy and self-management.
How the Approach Works
GoMo Health’s digital engagement approach incorporates behavioral, cognitive, and developmental principles. Programs are customized to each partner organization’s needs and priorities.
For this pilot, personalized text messages provide ongoing education and support related to diabetes management and oral health care.
Current Status and Evidence
The pilot launched in June 2026 and is scheduled to continue through June 2027. At the time of submission, no pilot outcome data were available.
The initiative draws on published research examining the relationship between periodontal disease and diabetes, the effects of periodontal therapy on glycemic control, and associations between preventive dental care, healthcare outcomes, and costs among Medicaid members with diabetes.
